Transport
The Montreal and Ottawa/Gatineau area are easily reached by plane, train, bus and car.
Please consult the program pages to obtain specific transportation information about events you will attend. In particular, the Ski Montcalm/Rawdon area is difficult to reach by public transportation. Consider going by car or carpool. However, the COC Sprint site (CEPSUM, Université de Montréal) is accessible by metro (Édouard-Montpetit station, blue line), bus (see stm.info to plan a trip or the Transit app) or Bixi (bike sharing). Parking on the street is possible but heavily regulated.
Lodging
Ottawa: There are many options for camping, hotels, motels, and Airbnb’s in the Ottawa and Gatineau area. Please note that unfortunately the popular campground at Lac Philippe in Gatineau Park is closed for renovations for the entire summer.
In addition to these options, the owner of The Ark where we will be hosting the Middle and Long events has camping spots for 20 or more tents. If you wish to book a spot at The Ark, e-mail Mike directly at mike@mikecaldwell.info. Be sure to mention the nights you will be there and that you are with the Ottawa O-Fest orienteering group.
Montreal: the offering in Montreal area broad. It is more restricted read Rawdon/Ski Montcalm, you may want to consider lodging in Montreal or north of the city (Laval, Terrebonne) to minimize travel distance.
An interesting possibility for Monday to Thursday evenings is a hotel appropriately named Hotel O-Suites in Laval located at 1375 boul des Laurentides. Driving distances are 67km from Kinadapt, 42km to St-Jérome, 23km from Domaine Vert, 21km to Université de Montréal and 69km from Ski Montcalm.
Camping at Ski Montcalm (site of Middle & Long distance events): Available for 3 nights (Thursday August 10 to Saturday August 12) at $20 for an individual (per night) or $40 for a couple or family (per night). Reservations can be made here. Access to a tap for water, indoor washrooms until 10pm and a portable toilet for overnight use are provided.
Camping at Kinadapt (location of model map & 20 minutes from Ski Montcalm) : Must be reserved by phoning 450-834-4441. Special rate for COC of $30 per tent (not by number of people). A waiver must be signed and dogs who have not been introduced to Kinadapt previously are not accepted. They must also be vaccinated and sterilized. There is also a ‘ready to camp’ for a family at a price of $100 a night tax included.
